Inside the Colorful Bedrooms of This Wisconsin Cabin

Designing the Guest Experience
The bedrooms in this Wisconsin cabin are only one part of a much bigger transformation, but were important to get right. Working alongside North Arrow Architecture and Nor-Son Custom Builders, Eminent Interior Design helped shape the finishes, furnishings and overall interior direction for a family property that has been on the same lake for more than one hundred years.
For the bedroom suites, our client had three goals:
#1: Colorful, yet classic.
#2: A boutique hotel feel that gave guests a retreat of their own.
#3: Self-contained suites with a private bath, walk-in closet, desk, and prep sink with a coffee setup. The idea was simple: guests could wake up, make a cup of coffee and enjoy a quiet morning before joining the rest of the house.
Serene & Peaceful
Our client wanted carpet in the bedrooms, and we found a plaid that came in several color options. From there, each room took on its own palette. In this bedroom, the green carpet became the starting point for coordinating wallpaper and rich green built-ins, while the wood ceiling adds warmth and keeps the room grounded.
A Hint of Pink
The attached bathroom takes the color story in a different direction with soft pink and playful duck wallpaper that adds just a touch of Northwoods character. The remaining finishes were kept neutral, so the pattern and color stand out.
Elegant Character
Located on the upper level, this bedroom balances black with warm cream for a look that feels bold but still inviting. The feature wall draws you in first, but the smaller details are what pull the room together, with patterns and colors repeated throughout in subtle ways.
A Private Ensuite
The attached bathroom gives guests their own private space, adding another layer of comfort and convenience to the suite. Warm wood cabinetry and dark finishes continue the bedroom’s palette.
Classic in Blue
In this suite, classic blue is elevated through layers of pattern. The plaid carpet establishes the palette, while the bedding carries it throughout the room. A rich blue built-in desk and sink give guests their own spot to work, get ready, or make a cup of coffee.
A Little Nautical
In the ensuite bath, sailboat wallpaper brings in a playful lake-inspired detail while the permanent finishes stay timeless and neutral. That balance also gives the room flexibility down the road: change the wallpaper, and the bathroom can take on an entirely new look without changing the major finishes.
Room for Everyone
The bunkroom gives the kids a place that feels like their own. It’s a smart use of space and functional solutoin. Plus, room for late-night conversations after a full day at the cabin make this one of those spaces that’s as much about the memories as the design.
Part of a Bigger Story
Together, the bedrooms show how color and pattern can give each guest space its own personality while still feeling connected to the cabin as a whole. That same balance between personality, comfort and the cabin’s history carries throughout the rest of the home.
